Day 1 — Hope Begins With What We Believe

Today's Focus: Identify what you are expecting and examine where your confidence rests.

Read: Romans 15:13; Hebrews 11:1

“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing…” — Romans 15:13

The Lesson

Everybody wants something. Some of us want financial freedom. Some want a

healthy body, a restored marriage, children who make good decisions, a better job, or peace in our homes. Others are simply hoping that tomorrow will be better than today.  There is nothing inherently wrong with having desires, setting goals, or believing that life can improve. The question is not whether you have hope. The question is what are you building your hope upon?  A person can hope for a promotion and work diligently toward it. Another can hope for a restored marriage and begin changing how they communicate. Someone else can hope for healing while seeking appropriate medical care and praying for God's strength. These are all ways of moving toward a desired outcome.  But our plans cannot guarantee the results we want. People disappoint us. Opportunities disappear. Our health can change. Sometimes we do everything we know to do, and life still takes an unexpected turn.  This is where biblical hope becomes different from wishful thinking. Biblical hope rests in the character, faithfulness, and promises of God. It does not mean we know exactly how everything will work out. It means we trust God even when we cannot see the entire journey.  Hope becomes the foundation upon which our faith stands, giving us a reason to keep believing, growing, and moving forward.

Reflect And Be Honest

What is the one thing you are hoping will change in your life right now?

Have you placed more confidence in the outcome you want than in God Himself?

If the answer to your prayer takes longer than expected, what will help you continue trusting God?

Life Application: Name your hope

Write down one desire that has been weighing heavily on your heart. Then complete these statements:

What I am hoping for is: __________.

What I can do responsibly to work toward it is: __________.

What I must trust God with because I cannot control it is: __________.

Today, take one practical step toward the goal you identified. Pray over it, but also be willing to do the work, make the necessary changes, or ask for help.

Today's Prayer

Lord, thank You for giving me a reason to hope. Help me recognize the difference between wanting something and trusting You. Teach me to pursue my goals with wisdom while keeping my confidence rooted in Your faithfulness. When I cannot see what lies ahead, help me trust You with the journey. In Jesus' name, amen.

Journal Prompt: What would change about my attitude today if my hope rested in God's faithfulness rather than in my circumstances?

Carry This With You: I can desire a better tomorrow without making tomorrow my god.
